Hello! I’m popping in to share some news, some links, and some upcoming events… It’s been a little over seven weeks since the April 4th release of my illustrated creative journal, Find Your Awesome. You can read what people are saying about it on Goodreads and NetGalley. I’ve posted my last personal copy of Find Your Awesome  in my Etsy shop.… Read more

FIND YOUR AWESOME is here!

Friends, I’m so incredibly excited and proud to announce that today is the official release date for my illustrated creative journal, FIND YOUR AWESOME! Check out my fun, animated book trailer, made possible by creative mastermind Dillon Wall. It includes illustrations and words taken right from the book. I poured my whole writerly, doodly, love-warrior-self into this book because I believe that if we could learn to love ourselves as ardently and sincerely as we love others, we could change the world.… Read more

The 10 best things I learned on vacation

Last month, Chad and I went on vacation. We took 10 days to drive from where we live, on the eastern tip of the San Francisco Bay area, to Anacortes, Washington, and back again. To say it was a much-needed adventure is an understatement. This past year has been surprising and wonderful, but it’s also been relentlessly frenetic and challenging. We were two human sized stress balls in need of some serious leisure time (or decidedly UN-serious leisure time, as the case may be).… Read more

Art For The Fun Of It (the big finish)

And another 30-day challenge comes to an end. What a blast I had with this one (and anyone who’s followed me long enough knows that isn’t always the case with my challenges). I think the key to my success was to do all the art in my sketchbook. I can’t tell you how seriously I DID NOT take the art that I created because it was my sketchbook, and that’s not where where I do my client work.… Read more

Art for the fun of it (the love edition)

Art For The Fun Of It continues, and I have to say that this is the most fun I’ve ever had doing a 30-day challenge. I pop open my sketchbook at the end of every day, after I’ve crossed the last thing from my to-do list, had dinner, and cleaned up the kitchen. That’s when I sit down with my sketchbook and pens and think, “Now for the fun stuff…” … like these doodly waves (which I think would look really fun in shades of blue and green, as ocean waves in a larger piece)…   … and these doodly arrows.… Read more

Art for the fun of it (half way through my 30-day challenge)

I’m just past the half-way point of my Art For The Fun Of It 30-day challenge. Here are this week’s masterpieces of play! I’m also using this challenge to work on my photography skills. I just set up a table for painting and photographing in a windowed corner of my work space. The light is so much better there. All I need to do now is master my camera.… Read more

Art for the fun of it (sketchbook heaven)

And my Art For The Fun Of It 30-day challenge continues! Look at all these happy little guys! It took a few nights to finish my Red & Black experiment, but I had a lot of fun with it. I took a first night progress shot of my Puddle-wonderful doodle, which was inspired (obviously?) by the ee cummings poem, “in Just,” which I love.… Read more

Everyday wonder

I  just finished Oprah and Deepak’s latest 21-day meditation series, and I came away with three really powerful ideas that I want to share. I’m going to talk about the first one today, and the others over the next two posts. The first one is a very simple, utterly lovely suggestion:

Let yourself be awed.

As children, we were constantly amazed by a world that presented us with new experiences every day, but as we grow older two things happen.… Read more

Love, doodles, and a happiness jar

Happy 2015, everyone! I have 5 Happy-New-Year updates, so I’m writing a quick post before I return to my regular schedule on January 16th. First, in case you didn’t hear the news, we donated $3,000 to Lisa Adam’s Sloan-Kettering metastatic breast cancer research fund. What we were able to accomplish in a couple of months awed and humbled me. I made the donation on December 31st, and it was the best way to end a year ever.… Read more
